Engine malfunction

Post by vaiper » Sun Sep 16, 2018 11:04 am

Hey!

Just hoping to get some ideas or confirmation for next steps on Ford S-Max 2011 2.0L Durotorq engine (120kW).
I was hiking for week and car was parked. Meanwhile it was cold enough outside that that the light which states that fuel is being warmed was on. I was not driving, but I know that the person who was did not wait the light to go out and tried to start the engine for a moment, but stopped then. Next time he waited the light to go out and started successfully. Car was driven about 1000 kilometers on highway and "Engine malfunction" came on. I drove home for another 500 km-s. There is no loss of power or any other problem.

I connected Forscan and next faults were registred:
===PCM DTC P246B:00-2F===
Code: P246B - Vehicle Conditions Incorrect for Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration

Status:
- DTC Present at Time of Request
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC

Module: Powertrain Control Module

-OUTTMP: 14 °C - External Temperature From Sensor
===END PCM DTC P246B:00-2F===

===PCM DTC P244C:00-6D===
Code: P244C - Catalyst Temperature Too Low During Regeneration, Bank 1

Status:
- DTC Present at Time of Request
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC
- Test not complete

Module: Powertrain Control Module

Freeze Frame :
-GLOBTIM: 215422358 sec - Global real time
-TOTDIST: 244368.0 km - Total Distance
-MAINECUV: 14.75 Volt - Main ECU voltage supply

As I understand then DPF regeneration cannot start because of P244C and that causes "engine malfunction".

I have tried to start it via Forscan, but "The static regeneration has failed. Unspecified abort condition" is displayed.
In idle:
DPF_LOAD 130%
FPG_SOOT_LD 121%

Since usually I mostly do city driving then about once a month I have done manual regeneration of DPF for few years now.

As I have read from forums, then those kind of problems are not easily solved even by pro-s and usually they go to the service for multiple times to change multiple components, which cost quite a lot.

From Dr Internet I can thing of two possible solutions:
1) and the most likely cause - DPF Vaporizer Valve needs cleaning, wire or fuse checking or the device needs replacement:

Does my engine have that?
2) DPF needs cleaning with soapy water or with special chemical.

Am I on right track? Any guidelines to count on? Any how to confirm those possible causes? Before going under the car?

If the % gets too high, you cannot do a forced regen for fear of burning the car down so be warned. I looks like the DPF will have to be taken down and cleaned. Then find out why the temp was not high enough. Lots of problems with these, but done right and it will live again.

Thx. Meanwhile I read, that manual regen cannot be started if there is a warning (engine malfunction), so I connected my PC again to the car. There are other errors also which for some reason I did not notice before:
===PCM DTC P1304:91-2E===
Code: P1304 - EGR Calibration High

Additional Fault Symptom:

What I did was clearing DTC. Manual regen started and reached to about 30% and then stopped - The static regeneration has failed. "Static regeneration complete althouch the soot load is still above the maximum limit. It is recommended to repeat the static regeneration so that it is attempted a maximum of two times." Engine malfunction and p244c.

Dpf load 0
Dpf soot 122

Catemp12 100

Cleared DTC again and started DPF regen. This time it reached to 97% like it has been for few years now with "normal" error: "The static regeneration has failed. Regeneration time exceeded allowable limit. Perform a self-test to identify wheather DTC P2463 is still present. If DTC P2463 can be cleared the regeneration has been successful."

Engine malfunction did NOT appear.

During regen nr 2 I felt smell of rubber. I hope that fixing car with a computer will not burn it down...

Is my car OK now? Should I buy some DPF preventitive cleaner? Does some of them clean vaporizer valve also?
