Odometer Difference

Post by DarrylB » Sat May 23, 2015 4:41 am

I've just been introduced to Forscan for both Windows and Android and both are working well but I've noticed something odd. The total vehicle distance reported by Forscan, both Windows and Android, is different than shown on my dashboard odometer. Forscan shows 53,404.7 km and my dashboard readout shows 53,342.7 km. A difference of 62 km.

Is the total vehicle distance the same as the odometer reading? If so, why are they different?

Thanks.

This is most likely ф precision problem (inaccuracy in calculation formula). Can you please provide exact name of PID and module you read it from?

I was reading the DIST_TOT_VEH - Total Vehicle Distance from the PCM (53,404.7 km)

Your reply implied there were other PIDs that would also provide this. So I checked and found this:

ODOMETER - Total Distance from the IPC module. It reads 53,331.1 km.

Thanks for the quick reply!

By the way, I'm using an OBDLink MX Bluetooth adapter with my Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4.2. I got the same numbers using the Windows version of Forscan on my Windows 8.1 laptop.

We will fix both PIDs in the next version

I'm see the same problem. So will this fix go into the core? So if your using Android, the fix will come out with a new Android version with the next core?

Version for Windows will have this fix in v2.2.5. We can provide a test build, if Windows version is ok.
Version for iOS should have it already, as it was released after the fix was made and has the latest datbase.
First version for Android (we mean first version officially released, that is being prepared now) will have this fix too.

I'll run the Windows test build if you want.

using version 1.2.5 for iPhone, forscan shows a total distance of 23 miles more than my dashboard is showing but i don't think it's a fault with forscan.
I think the difference in mileage is caused by the dealers being able to reset the mileage of a new car up to a distance of 50 km, forscan shows the true mileage and dashboard shows mileage after dealer reset.
