EGR opens at cold start

Hello. I have a ford focus 2, 2007 year, 1.6 TDCi 90cp. In morning,  i can see with forscan that my egr is openning at cold idle, after i start the car. Egrvp varies between 50-70%, causing a very rough idle. When i stop the car i can see egr moves between 0 and 100% and then remains on 0 after few cycles. Egr has been cleaned and calibrated with forscan. Egr is a valeo one.

I tried with another egr from a local service and it happens the same. My ecu commands the egr to open after i start the car even engine is very cold. The start, the running of car is pretty good, except the rough idle at cold. No dtcs errors.

What it can be?

ECU commanding egr open when cold is normal, if you have just fitted a new valve drive it for a couple if days to complete a drive cycle first

My 1.6 Diesel (later model) does exactly the same. As @steve44 says I think this is normal behaviour.

But i have rough idle at cold start. Fuel pressure is 330000 kpa at start. What do you have?

I double checked this morning.
FRP 32600 Kpa
RPM 792
MAF 7.80 g/sec (when warm it is normally around 5)
After a few seconds my EGRVP is around 50%
Outside temperature 10c

I have the later Euro V version of this engine and it has done 98,000 miles.
I hope this helps

And your idle is ok at cold? I have to check my maf values.

For the first few seconds the RPM jumps about a bit then it settles down ok.

I have had this car for 8 years and when it was newer it started instantly without allowing the heater plugs to pre heat and settled down instantly, even in winter. Now I need to pre heat it otherwise it takes a few seconds cranking and it takes a few seconds to settle down. I have put that down to age rather than any one specific fault.

Your MAF may be different if yours is an earlier engine.

For me happens the same. Rpm varies few seconds after start, then idle its fine for about 30 seconds then i have a rough idle, like it is working in 3 injectors, until engine reach about 60 degrees. Injectors has been tested and they are all fine.

I will have a look at the maf to check the value on the cold engine.

And the quality of the fuel. I find supermarket fuel is not good for my car.
