P1335 and P0490 issues on MK4 mondeo after replacing EGR

Post by tailskrumins » Wed Aug 16, 2017 9:44 pm

Hoping someone can help.

I recently replaced the EGR on my 2008 ford mondeo mk4 2.0 TDCI. I keep getting a persistent P1335 fault code. I have recently replaced the EGR, reset the EGR network adapters (a number of times). reset all adapters. I've checked all wiring, seems to be good, my DP-DPF seems to be normally operating (I get about 0.3kPa at idle up to about 15kpa when under load). I've checked the EGR throttle, it closes when the car is being turned off, and it variable (changing)when the car is regenerating. MAP and MAF seem to normally operating. ONe thing I have noticed is the CAT temp sensors 1&2 are showing -40°C, so I either don't have them or they are fault/disconnected (are you meant to have these on every car?).

Does anyone know what else might control the EGR? or why I'm getting these fault codes? Attached is a screenshot of the EGR when my car is at idle.

what egrvp voltage does Forscan show with key on engine off, it should be one volt.

Yep, it's 1v

Forscan has a service procedure "reset egr valve adaptation" that is only available in the windows version, is this what you have done.

Yes, this is the procedure that I've done. Since my last post, I've contacted the egr part provider, they replaced the part for me thinking it might be faulty, I've installed a second new egr. Reset the egr adapters twice before running, but I still seem to get the same fault. The egr seems to become unstable when cruising at 100-110kms, when cruising at 80kms, it seems to be very stable.

I have read a post on a forum where someone had the p1335 code and after changing the egr the code was still there, turned out to be a fault in the egr throttle valve or as ford call it the air shutoff valve.

Yeah, I had the same thought about the egr throttle too. I get a solid 4v signal through that (throttle open) other than when the car is turning off, where the throttle closes. The only other time I've noticed that valve open/close is when regeneration is occuring. Is this the normal operation of this valve (I think it is) ? Or should it be opened and closing frequently when driving normally?

Mine operates the same way, under normal driving Forscan shows 4.3v steady and when the car is switched off it drops to 1v for about 3 seconds then returns to 4.3. Have you tried wiggling the wiring harness with key on engine off and look for any dropouts of voltage for the egr valve and egr throttle valve.

Yeah, I've check the wiring. With engine turned off I'm getting 0.86v (it was 0.96v on the first new egr I had, so I know this slightly lower voltage shouldn't be an issue, especially after I reset the adapters), when I wiggle the wiring I don't get any fluctuation of voltage, I've done the same thing with the dps, both seem good. I've wiggled the entries harness as far as I can see the harness go, no flux in voltage anywhere.

Does the throttle valve close to 1v when the engine is switched off.
