Clear Crash data using ELM327

Post by keefSure » Wed Apr 05, 2017 10:45 am

Hi,

Tried clearing Crash data using the ELM327, it clears but then ignition off and on again it comes back, see below:

Ford S-MAX 2007 2.0L TDCi Duratorq
-----------------------------------------
Code: U1A37 - Crash Status Telegram

Status:
- DTC Present at Time of Request
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC

Module: Restraint Control Module

Diagnostic Trouble Code details

The RCM crash data memory is full, due to a crash event that has deployed the air bags
------------------------------------------------
RCM U1A37:00-8A

Anybody know if this can be cleared? only both pretenioners were gone and now replaced just leaving crash data

In my past experience, I've always had to replace the module. I've been told that once crash data is written it cannot be cleared as it is written to ROM (read only memory) that is reserved for crash data. Not sure if that is correct but all attempts to clear it or change coding has failed for me and had to simply replace the module. If you figure it out, be sure to post. Good luck!

Seems the only way you can clear it is on a bench through the EPROM, spoke to a chap that does this, so the process is below

1) disconnect battery
2) remove the airbag ECU
3) technician clears the data using eprom by copying the data from a good module
4) install airbag ECU back into vechicle
5) connect battery

I thought maybe FORScan has a way of doing this, maybe not on this particular vehicle?

Cheers

Hi, keefShure EEPROM is usually done on a bench as its a direct HW erase and flash procedure and i highly doubt that it can be done via OBD thats why its a "bench" job :D

Here's what ford say about the dtc.

DTC U1A37 00: Crash status telegram *RCM crash data. *Clear the data memory using the Ford diagnostic equipment. REPEAT the self test, CLEAR the DTCs.

Crash event has to be reset using service function "Crash Flag Reset" in FORScan. The function is available only for European models. For Mondeo 4, Smax and Galaxy crash has to be reset in RCM, then (if necessary) in BCM module. DTCs must be cleared after crash reset. Using service tool, crash can be reset up to 5 times, then RCM module has to be replaced or cleared directly in EEPROM using special equipment.
