My experience with programming Pats keys

I wanted to share my experience. While Programming, I inadvertently erased all keys, rendering the vehicle disabled (immobilized) with both original and new keys not able to start the vehicle. The solution to my problem was to get a good key (New or used OEM). Even though Forscan showed that the key that I had was compatible, it was not, 80bit vs 40bit pay attention to that. So I extracted the tranponder chip from a used Ford key (same era). I programmed with no problem. I was lucky the Ford/Mazda 4D ID63 chips are reusable. Don't make the same mistake I made. Make sure you're able to program an additional key before erasing all keys. When you successfully program a spare, make sure the key count also increases. How can you tell which keys are 40 or 80 ?

I don't understand this thing with OEM transponder and aftermarket transponder.
OEM transponder are chinese as much as the ones they sell on ebay.

Truth is, in my case, that EVERY single time i used my locksmith key programmer i was successful, while none of the times i used Forscan or IDS i was able to program.
And only once i programmed an OEM key. The others were all aftermarket.

What i believe sometimes happens is that the wrong transponder is used.

4D instead of the 4C, or 40bit one instead of the 80bit one... stuff like that.

I remember when i looked for some transponder from china even tho i was looking for the 80bit ones (more expensive) they kept trying to make me buy the 40bit ones.
Even tho they work on a large number of vehicles there are some specific vehicles which require the 80bit transponders... and when that happens i can't tell the customer "sorry, i only have the 40bit", and fortunately the 80bit works on car requiring the 40bit.

Anyway this doesn't change the fact that i was NEVER able to program PATS with Forscan, even tho i offer my help to solve the problem and improve the program.

Why weren't you able to program original keys again after erasing all keys ?
Is this how PATS works ? Do you always need new key after erasing old ?
