Enable Cr Ctrl on Crown Vic Pol Intcptr?

Post by Earnest » Thu Oct 20, 2016 11:41 pm

Hello,

I have spent many hours the last several days trying to find out which byte I need to modify to enable cruise control on my 07 Ford Crown Vic police interceptor.

I can change the settings such as Dark car mode and it stays changed. So it seems the hardware and software are configured correctly.

I just can't find two little bits of information: which byte to change, and what to change it to in order to activate cruise control.

Does anyone have any suggestions about where I can find these two bits of information?

Thank you.

This is the data I am able to change in FORscan.
(Your usage may vary.)

ABD = As Built Data

The first column is the memory location.
PCM 1

The second and third columns are the data.
FFFF FFFF

The last column can be ignored because it is the check sum for the row.
020F

Modules in FORscan UI:

PCM (Powertrain Control Module) ABD
PCM 1 FFFF FFFF 020F
PCM 2 FF0E 33FF FF50
PCM 3 FFFF FFFF FF0E
PCM 4 FFFF FFFF FF0F
PCM 5 FFFF FFFF FF10

I expect I need to change only one digit in the second or third column of the VDM or PCM to turn on cruise control.

How do I find out which one and what to change it to, please?

Thank you.

Hi Earnest!

You may not need to go all the way into the As Built Data to change this.. By the look of this article you can change it purely through the IDS options..

http://www.idmsvcs.com/2vmod/fordids/sc ... index.html

Maybe with a try?

Thank you for the response. I am not using the formal FORD IDS software. But the process you linked to was very helpful in knowing what to do once I have the correct code. I did not know the process was so involved and included a full reprogram of the PCM. (When I changed the Dark Car mode I just set the FORscan parameter to Disabled and it worked.)

I am using FORscan which was written as a FREE alternative to the IDS system. All one needs to use it is a low cost device like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/272329308976?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Unfortunately, Forscan does not have the same convenient user interface for all the data as does the Ford IDS, though some options are clearly listed. (At least for my car.) But it does give access to the data, and the ability to change it, providing one can identify which byte applies to which parameter setting.

(If I am not using the software correctly, please let me know.)

Does the IDS software give the As Built data (as shown in my post) along with the human readable data (as shown in the above post)?

If so, might someone like to identify which As Built codes apply to which human readable parameters and post what they find out on the forum, and even send the data to FORscan so they can incorporate it into their software?

Perhaps to start with, the cruise control code?
;-)

Thank you.

I think (hope) I may have found which bit to flip to enable cruise control. But when I went to flip it, I found I could not access the PCM As Built data with the Extended FORscan program.

Is there any way to access this data with FORscan?

If not, I would be willing to attempt to modify the source code if I can get a copy of it. Does anyone know if this a possibility?

After hearing back from FORscan, the program cannot currently modify PCM data, though there are plans to include it in the future.

In the future? This was posted three years ago and we are still waiting. I think of a couple important things that forscan should be able to do easily is equipment additions, remote door modules and getting out of dark mode. They took care of a few things already but what about the other? There's probably a possibility of destroying the PCM by fooling around with it, I understand that, but if the forscan folks could just write a simple speed control yes or no, that's all we would need. Maybe I'm being too simplistic in my ideas? Anyway that's my two cents ...thanks guys here and the forscan folks for all the good work you're doing.
