2014 F-150 Brake controller

Post by Kstone2274 »

I have a 2014 F-150 XL 5.0. My truck came with the towing package but not the brake controller. Bough the OEM brake controller off of eBay and installed both fuses in the proper area and use Forscan to enable it. When I hook the trailer up it says trailer disconnected but I've used multiple trailers and it says the same thing. I just replace the pigtail that goes from the truck with the OEM because the clip broke on it so I know it's grounded properly and everything. The only thing to enable in four scan is trailer brake gain control. The buttons illuminate and I can scroll positive and negative to adjust the gain but it still says trailer disconnected and I'm stumped I've tried everything. Anything could help I would graciously appreciate it

Read the document that accompanies these notes.

1. Connect FORScan to the vehicle and begin a new session.
2. Select Configuration and Programming
3. Select Module IC or Instrument Cluster
4. Select the Programmable Parameters
5. Select Personality
6. For TCB-IC, select Equipped or Not Equipped
7. Trailer Brake Controller Gain, choose Enable.

I read somewhere earlier that a guy had to take his truck in after adding the truck controller and using foreskin for a software update to get it to work right?

There is definitely truth to that statement.
Many controllers will share different platforms but the software level needs to fit the model with the accessories added to that vehicle.
You should edit your statement above.

I spoke to the technician at the Ford dealership and he said that if I flashed it with forscan ,That's all that they would do at the dealer besides checking the fuses which I have already done. I went through all the steps again two times today and still says trailer disconnected. The gain works . The two little plus and minus lights work when you squeeze the trailer brake controller it says trailer disconnected. I did not want to put an aftermarket controller on there and screw it into my plastic but I guess that's my only option from here.

Is there a trailer connected?
If there is no trailer connected with electric brakes, that is the warning of the electric brakes seen as an open circuit.

What is the part number (image of the box also) of the OEM brake controller purchased on eBay.
Did you make any spreadsheet changes on your model before or after installing the brake controller.

Okay so far as an update to this. I figured out that one of my friends works at the Ford dealership here in the mechanic shop so he took the computer and put on it and everything is right on the truck. I changed the pigtail that goes from the frame to the hitch connector and I've also changed the whole hitch connector. The controller is working cuz when I have my trailer hook it and I squeeze the plus and minus it stops the truck. I am not sure that the gain is working because it doesn't show up on the dash whenever I brake. Maybe it's the instrument control panel not properly showing that it's connected? Even he couldn't figure out what was the problem after I changed everything.

By chance, did you show or get a copy of the second post for the technician?
Have your friend read it and should naturaly follow the IDS and FORScan setup.
Either that or your dash may be different and doesn't have that feature.
