Turning off Ford OEM radio to prevent DTC errors Mk8 Transit Minibus

Post by jack2006 »

I have changed the standard Ford radio for a Pioneer touchscreen one and wonder if anyone knows what settings could be changed to disable the standard Ford radio setup in a Transit Mk8 (2016) minibus to prevent the DTC errors popping up?

Explain the "standard radio" and what faults pop up.
Are the faults in the messaging center or the scan tool?
Best guess is in the central configuration and when that model was built, the radio is part of the network.
Depending on the radio, that are other accessories that are also connected ie: Blutooth for a mobile, compass calibration / direction and an integral part of the network.
A schematic of the network installation may help in terminating that specific network.

Thanks for suggestions.

Yes I have the workshop manual so ok with schematics. The Ford parts removed are the radio/CD player unit, keypad. The display module is reused but the Ford connection that used to go direct to this now goes via an interface from CarAudio that in turn links the display back in whilst providing the CAN connection to the aftermarket Pioneer radio.

So basically the CAN connection is lost to the radio module, keypad and perhaps the display unless the aftermarket parts sends back the correct CAN messages but technically it should not be transmitting on the CAN bus as its not an OEM part.

I have attached pictures of the equipment taken out and the DTC codes which are only given in ForScan not on the message centre.

The aftermarket component should not be connected to the CAN network harness.
The warning message you asked about, if it on the vehicle dash or only within FORScan?

If there are no warning is any message center, then the only fault with FORScan will be the missing radio CAN messages.
There is a chance the Central Configuration can be changed to remove that type of radio but faults will return.
You can possibly find a CAN bypass module or terminate the network with resistors.
