1.6 Tdci glowplug control circuit p0380

Post by Wod » Fri May 15, 2015 4:09 pm

Hello there, another fault yet again lol.
Does this mean my glow plugs need replacing? It says Above maximum threshold?
I only see three relays in the engine all of which iv cleaned out. The wiring loom is the newer type and is not damaged. The car starts and drives but the ecu is leaving me in limp mode. I'm lost :(
I have a multimeter can I test the plugs somehow?
Thanks

It is quite easy to check glow plugs by measuring their resistance, most complex thing usually is getting access to them. You can find glow plugs testing procedure description using google, for example:

If you found that all plugs are defective, you need to replace them. If P0380 has gone, it means the circuit work OK.

Another way to check the glow plug circuit is the following: turn ignition on but don't run the engine. Connect FORScan and select VPWR PID in read mode and GPC in Outpur Control mode. VPWR should show around 12,5V, but when you turn on GPC, the voltage should drop below 12V. Unfortunately the GPC control PID may be available not for all models, so this way is not always applicable.

Nice one, thank you for the help.
Believe it or not all four are totally out of range, I can see the relay is working itself
Cheers guys

in workshop I always use clamp for measuring curent...if you know that glow plug can surge about 20A and you have 4 plugs then you instrument must show 80A ..it means all 4 are fine..IF you have 60 or 40 or 20 you know what this mean...but IF result is 33 or similar then you need to fisicaly test each of them one by one ....good curent clamp meter can save a lot of time...be avare that most chinese(cheap) clamp meter only measure AC curent with clamp so they are no good for car workshop..
