Back-up camera

Post by Jtbrandt2016 » Thu Sep 12, 2019 11:12 am

Is there any way to use your back-up camera while driving down the road? I haul ATVs often. It would be nice to do a quick check on my straps and gear on the front of the trailer that I can’t see with mirrors. I have a 2017 f150 XLT with the smaller sync screen.

Would it not be easier to just get a bigger rear view mirror?

No what I’m trying to see is blocked. You can’t see it with tow mirrors or any mirror from the driver seat.

I have the same question/need. The backup-camera view is a perfect view of my trailer, but only when the vehicle is in reverse. It would be great to be able to periodically check this view while the vehicle was traveling down the road.

Following this. This would be awesome to have to keep an eye on the trailer at all times.

Don't know if there's a way to do this in FORScan, but you might be able to run +12V to a switch, then to the backup trigger wire for your display.

In my 2012 Expedition, it would be in the mirror, Connector 9039, pin 2, green-brown wire.

In other vehicles, it might be built into the radio display. I'd look up a wiring diagram and find out.

On a small number of vehicles, the camera display might get its signal from the can bus, in which case, a simple switch won't work.

In vehicles with automatic transmission, when the reverse is selected with the vehicle in motion, the camera is activated, without affecting the movement of the vehicle.

Find in youtube

There is no camera control on the screen of the 2018 Ford Super Duty (it simply comes-on when the vehicle is in Reverse), so even if you override the ability for the camera to work with the vehicle in Drive, you still would need a software option to select the camera for display.
