OBDlink MX+ support on MS can?

Post by kickerzx » Sun Nov 25, 2018 11:56 am

I previously had a "regular" MX and it worked perfectly with both HS and MS.
Now with my new MX+ i can only read HS can.

So no support yet or did OBDlink do something to screw this up?

Hello,

I am having the exact same issue. I was able to access the MS CAN modules with my MX, but with the MX+ I can only see the HS CAN modules. ForScan asks if I have a HS/MS switch. I choose yes, but then nothing.

Any help?

Spec sheet says it should work. But you really could have saved money and stuck with the regular MX unless you actually need the iOS support.

Same problem with ms-can using an OBDLink MX+.

Mine is revision 1.1 with the stn2255 chip, if it matters. The OBDLink app can connect to ms-can, so the adapter itself is functional. My guess is that it's a compatibility issue or failure to recognize the MX+ or possibly just this revision as capable of reading ms-can without a hardware switch.

Is there anyone with an MX+ than can discover ms-can modules via FORScan? If so, what is your Hardware revision (listed as Hardware ID in OBDLink) and/or Firmware ID?

I'm also interested if anyone has had luck getting full module support with an MX+. I've not yet made a purchase but wish to do so soon. If I'm going with a Bluetooth device I require iOS support (otherwise I may as well just go USB for the added speed and stability).

For those who are having issues, have you upgraded the firmware on your MX+? 4.5.15 was released in November with bug fixes. https://www.scantool.net/downloads/updates/obdlink_mxp/

I just returned 2 of them to amazon because of this issue. I can't really find any information on the improvements this has over the mx other than its support. I thought I might as well get the latest version. I might just buy the normal mx and call it a day.

OBDLInk MX+ is built on new STN chip (2255) that is not recognized in current version of FORScan properly. As a result, FORScan detects it as ELM327 and doesn't work with MS-CAN. This is already fixed in FORScan for Windows v2.3.19 (that will be released soon as we hope), now we work on proper support in iOS version (as main advantage of MX+ is that it is MFi-compliant so it can work in iOS as Bluetooth adapter).

Where do we look for notification of when 2.3.19 is released? I too am suffering with the MX+ not working correctly in my Ford.

If you need version for Windows, you can request 2.3.19 test build (just PM or email to support).

If you need FORScan Lite for iOS/Android with 2.3.19 core, unfortunately you have to wait for official release. We are hopeful to release version for Windows and iOS in 1 week or so, release for Android version may require more time as since November Google tightened requirements to published application that forces us to replace the development environment.
