Is there a way to use FORScan with older single protocol devices like the ELM-320?

I tried with a USB-RS232 adapter and it's not detected. I don't know if it's FORScan or the adapter causing the problem.

Before I find a different adapter to try or buy a different ODBII device thought I'd see if it even should work.

From ... lm-327.php
"There are several types of interface. The most common use a chip made by ELM Electronics. The ELM327 is the most widely used and practical, supports all OBD protocols, i.e. KWP, PWM, VPN and CAN. The other circuits only support one protocol: The ELM320 only supports PWM; the ELM322 supports VPN and the ELM323 KWP."

so i would say probably not as it wont talk to anything on the car , the modified elms are only like £15 on fleabay in the u.k, dont get a chinesse one though and try to modifiy it as it wont work.

Why would it not talk to anything? With the older ODB software/computer I had it talked to the vehicle just fine. I just don't have that computer (hence the USB-RS232 adapter) and that software didn't support things like PATS programing.

The vehicle in question only uses PWM. A far as I know there is no need for CAN or any of the other protocols.
This is a real ELM320 too, not a clone.

But it's possible the developers of FORScan only check for ELM327. That's my question.

Even if the ELM320 can't do the more advanced, vehicle specific stuff (like PATS programming) the basic ODB diagnostics would be the same.

forscan checks for a few things not just elms , the adaptor is incorrect for forscan as far i can find out as it doesnt support the needed protocols that forscan uses to communicate with cars .
i have another adaptor i used on every car going , but i cant use it with forscan either.

I'd love to know what FORScan needs for my vehicle that the ELM320 doesn't support.
Shouldn't have to have support fo all the other stuff (like CAN or VPW) if not needed for my vehicle.

At least to my knowledge a 2000 model vehicle won't have either CAN bus so FORScan has no reason th check for support.

But I guess the FORScan people are not around to respond.

FORScan only supports cann equiped cars .as far as I can tell .hence the switch for hs cann 1 & mspeed 1
