Can a OBDLink SX be modified to read MS-CAN?

Post by omar302 » Tue Apr 26, 2016 2:21 pm

Like what the title says, Can a OBDLink SX (USB adapter) be modified to read MS-CAN?

Unfortunately, I purchased the SX not knowing that difference for MS-CAN compared to the MX. Since I now have it, before buying the MX, I'd like to know if it is possible first.

Modified using the same procedure for the ELM327 mentioned here: http://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4

I'm defiantly not an electronics expert but I'm not seeing a good way to add a switch to a OBDLINK SX.
The pins on the back of the connector are soldered directly to the PCB.
I guess I'll look into an OBD2 adapter / extension cable that I can add the switch to.

From the looks of it I would suggest taking alan71's advice and purchase an OBDII extension cable and add the MS/HS switch in the extension cable.

I ended up buying a MXBT much nicer not being tied inside the truck with a cable.
