ELS27 vs. Viaken ELM327 products

Post by rnsc » Fri Aug 30, 2019 2:51 am

The ELS27 v3 and Viaken ELM 327 v3 seem to be very comparable products using the STN1170
also the ELS27 v4 and Viaken ELM327 v4 seem to be very comparable products using the STN2120.

The list of protocols are similar but different. I would like to know what the difference in capabilities. I have a Ford and a Subaru now and need to use forscan and something else, I assume Torque. I would like to have a device that can be used with ANY manufacturer's car in the future with an appropriate app.

How are these products different? There is a big difference in cost.

Thank you.

ELS lists:

Standard Protocols
ISO 15765-v (CAN)
ISO 14230-4
ISO9141-2
SAE J1850 VPW
SAE J1850 PWM

Custom Protocols:
ISO 15765
ISO 11898 (raw CAN)
GMLAN Single Wire CAN (GMW3089)
Ford Medium Speed CAN (MS CAN)

Viaken lists:

ISO 15765-4 (CAN) -- Same as ELS
ISO 14230-4 -- Same as ELS
ISO9141-2 -- Same as ELS
J1850 VPW (GM) -- assume same as ELS - is it?
J1850 PWM (Ford) -- assume same as ELS - is it?
FORD HS CAN -- Not in ELS list!
FORD MS CAN -- Assume same as ELS - is it?
FORD SCP -- Not in ELS list!
FORD 9141 -- How is this different from "ISO9141-2", is this a variation that ELS does not support?
