Has anyone had a failed module firmware update? What happened? Were you able to fix it?
YEs. Had a BCM Firmware update fail. As I wrote earlier, the car wont start, ignition wont turn on, power windows/locks wont work, Electric Parking Brake won't release. I got a bricked vehicle. Was luck to get special help and flashed back to original firmware. But till that was fixed my car was stuck for more than a day. Again, I was very fortunate that I get assistance & the BCM was able to be reflashed.
Oh ok. What did you use to reflash the BCM firmware? Forscan software or Ford IDS or something else. I'm just wondering. Also what kind of vehicle was it? Thanks

"If something went wrong with the update, you will need to download official ScanTool firmware updater (https://www.scantool.net/scantool/downloads/updates/) and recover it manually."

It should be mentioned, that you better look into the Settings of the ScanTool firmware updater, there you find, BL Baud Rate; 115200. When you open the program you just see the COM-Port and its Baud Rate. Those lazy guys from ScanTool did a "great" job. Instead of setting the default for the COM-Port to AUTO or 115200 you they take the original value FTDI put in here during the installing process – 9600. Not such a good idea, set it to 115200 or the update will fail.

BTW, you mention that a battery charger should be applied, how many amps should the battery charger provide?

Good night! I use an ELM327 V1.5 and have never had any problems. I acquired a VCM II GM, this one has J2534. Can this interface have all the functions of FORScan?

For the battery charger question I did the PCM and TCM update with the laptop plugged in and the battery charger to the car battery at 12v 2amp and it worked fine.
Hope that helps.

I have a 2013 Ford Focus SE and a ELS27 adapter and I think this adapter should be in FTDI mode not COM mode in the settings. For the PCM update it took about 35 minutes and for the TCM it took about 24 minutes. It took about twice as long as the estimated time. I have an older slow laptop and the ELS27 adapter says software on the Forscan website. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=14885

So if you have the Forscan recommended adapter OBDLink EX or the Ford VMCII it should be close to the estimated time or half the time of this one.

"Ford VCMII genuine with hardware ISO15765 – 1000Kb/min

OBDLink EX with hardware ISO15765 – 700-900Kb/min

ELS27 with software ISO15765 -200-300 Kb/min (on 2-8 Mbps baud rate)"

If you do try any updates make sure your computer doesn't go into sleep mode or something like that and it is plugged in and the car is hooked up to a battery charger just to be safer. It just takes a while to update but just be patient and let it finish and it should be just fine.

Think you for your reply. I have an OBDLink EX and a LENOVO E330 I5 laptop.
I will give it a try but for the moment i'm not reassured.

Have a good night.

Maybe you need an "extended licence" so Forscan can request needed files from another storage location.
