Does anyone know what will happen if a Module Firmware Update doesn't complete properly?

Does anyone know what will happen if a Module Firmware Update doesn't complete properly?

The module will not work.
Best case scenario: the car will still run with some DTCs and the module could still be re-flashed correctly.
Worst case: The module will be bricked and require replacement.

Some modules are very critical, the Body Control Module (BCM) for example, if flashing fails the car wont start, ignition wont turn on, power windows/locks wont work, Electric Parking Brake won't release. Essentially, you would get a bricked vehicle. Replacing a BCM will require programming 2 keys through a PATS process which I don't think ForScan can do on newer vehicles.

No. But most probably something not good.

Thanks so much FORScan Team for your tremendous efforts to release FORScan v2.4.2 after 7 days only of releasing FORScan v2.4.1 to fix the APIM Firmware update issue. I used both version to update almost all Modules in my 2017 Explorer, but unfortunately the APIM update issue which is the main concern for most of people here have not been solved yet. Thanks again and hope to see a solution for this issue soon

Hello Friend, Please note the following:
1. Take photo of your current calibration files before doing any thing;
2- DOWNLOAD your current calibration files before you download the update files. if you can not download your current calibration files DO NOT UPDATE THAT MODULE.
3. I used a paid version with 1 year subscription FORScan v2.4.2.
4. I used OBDLink EX USB adapter for flashing the updates.

As mentioned in point 2 please please please ensure that you have a copy of your current calibration files for the module you want to update before doing anything

It happened to me with APIM due to flashing wrong calibration files and I ended up with a black screen. Fixed by flashing the original calibration files because I downloaded a copy of them before trying to update.

YEs. Had a BCM Firmware update fail. As I wrote earlier, the car wont start, ignition wont turn on, power windows/locks wont work, Electric Parking Brake won't release. I got a bricked vehicle. Was luck to get special help and flashed back to original firmware. But till that was fixed my car was stuck for more than a day. Again, I was very fortunate that I get assistance & the BCM was able to be reflashed.
