No, a breakout box is not required. Back probe at the connector or use a wire piercing probe. My two go to tools for circuit testing, Autel PS100 https://www.ebay.com/itm/123799975142?h ... Sw0TxdAPmA and an automotive incandescent test lamp to put an 1/2 amp load on the circuit.

BTW, only Ford has a breakout box. None of the other manufactures.

Can I use my DVOH? I dont mind purchasing the Autel but just want to make sure it is needed or is the best tool for the job

Nope, an Autel is not necessary. Just handy to have. Any DVOM will work just fine.
