Well i do a lot of diagnostic work and it can be a real pain in the ass. I get these and similar on a daily basis. Before you change the battery, open the bonnet and take key out. Then walk away and have a cup of tea or coffee to allow the system to go to sleep. On some cars it can take up to 20 minutes to go into sleep mode. Now you can safely remove the battery and keep all previous settings.
