Code: B115E - Camera Module

Postby blueoval24 » Thu Dec 08, 2016 2:24 am

2012 Ford Explorer XLT

I've had this code (Code: B115E - Camera Module) pending for a while, but am finally going to tackle it. I replaced my intermittently working rear camera with a new ford OEM one a few months back, and noticed the guide lines showed without any reconfiguration. Although the graphics were slightly different (thinner guide lines and pixelated color).
In any case, Ive been trying to run the rear view camera configuration via Forscan 2.3.4 beta, however it keeps failing at exactly 8% every time. Has anyone else experience this? I have ford IDS 96.x with a clone VCM2 and will attempt to run the RVC configuration via the body control module, but I am still wondering why it is failing with Forscan.

I have a very similar problem, also on a 2012 Ford Explorer. Camera was intermittent, then stopped working entirely. Display says 'camera unavailable, contact dealer'. I am getting a C1001 code for general electrical failure. I checked all fuses and cleaned connectors, and also checked to see that camera module was getting proper voltage which it is (getting 11.9 volts). Ground appears OK. Recalibration won't run, faults out and aborts early in the process, at the same 8% noted in the original post. I can reset the module, but the code comes back as soon as I put it in reverse and same message appears on the display. As a new camera module is over $500 from Ford, I would like to be absolutely sure of the problem before buying a new module. A lot of websearching has not come up with the answer yet. I also verified that the reverse sensing was working properly, as the backup lights and the self dimming rear view mirror are working properly (procedure from Ford point by point diagnosis chart). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Where are you going for the camera Module? I was able to pick up an OEM brand new rear camera on ebay (sold by a Ford dealer) for less than 100$.

When you check the connector for the camera behind the lift-gate trim, was it loose and was there any dirt or debris build up? If you are getting proper voltages and Impedance, then I would say the camera may be compromised.

Ill try to post a log when I try this again, (Still have not tried to configure with FORD IDS due to lack of time). However it is interesting that it is failing at the same 8%. What kind of ELM box/cable are you using? This is the one I have: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222250642720

The camera is $506.27 direct from Ford (fordparts.com). The ones on eBay are going for about $340 right now. For some reason, these Explorer cameras have increased drastically in price and are out of line with other backup cameras for other models. The connector was tight and very clean, but I cleaned it anyways. I am using one of the better ELM boxes with the mode switch that I bought out of the UK. It works great for everything else I have done with it. The really odd thing is that when the weather got extremely bitter cold a week or so ago, the camera started to work again. I am thinking that it may be the camera itself that is at fault, having a problem in one of the microcircuits and that under extreme cold, an 'open' in the circuit shrinks enough to make contact and work again.

I have this exact same code after trying some programming, connecting and disconnecting the camera this afternoon. I was trying to activate the parking sensor overlay on my Sync 2 system. This now works but the picture is upside down and guidelines are gone.

I have a European Focus which in this case uses an IPMB module to connect to the camera. I've tried two different IPMBs and they both throw the same code (B115E:49), which leads me to believe that there's either an obscure configuration problem in the IPMB, APIM or BCM, or - worst case - the camera's fried.

Has anyone made any progress with this issue? I also purchased a new oem camera and have tried configuring it with forscan with the same Abort/Error at 8%.

I'm also having the same issue faulting our at 8%. I do have an image, but it's upside down. I'm assuming the part number is invalid,EB5Z-19G490-A, when should be this BB5Z-19G490-A. EBay seller stated compatibility but I'm sending back and trying the BB5 camera.

It’s a bug in ForScan.

guys, in order to make normal image instead of upside down one, try to configure the IPMB module while ignition is on and rear gear is engaged, then reset all modules. it helped me with my ff3

Stimpy, you have anything to back that statement up? I just tried with an "aftermarket" camera and it only made it to 8%. Trying it with the original, though non-working, camera it would successfully complete every time.
