I have the exact same issue and cannot find anywhere to help. I have used 2 elm327 devices, on 2 vehicles and 3 laptops and still getting the same issue, would be great if someone could show me where I'm going wrong.

Having the exact same issue, purchased a "modified ELM327" usb adapter with the Ford logo on it (my car is a 2015 Mondeo), and it has a switch on it, have borrowed a Win7 Laptop to use for connection purposes and no matter what I try in regards to drivers, connection settings etc, Forscan just gives me the mentioned "unable to connect to vehicle" message.

I had a look at the Forscan log and it mentions being unable to find PCM, do you have this error also guys? The log can be found under the Start menu > Forscan > Forscan Log Folder or something similar if you are running under Windows.

At this point I can only assume it's either a dodgy adapter, or I've missed something.

This is the adapter I purchased: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162199978849

Anyone else care to chime in please?

IVe purchased 2 "modified ELM327" this week and both dont work. Super annoying as my £10 bluetooth adaptor that I bought 3 years ago works but cant see all the modules on my Focus.

Both of the ones I bought are EXACTLY the same inside, apart from the sticker on the outside. Really annoying.

Mine are both ELM327's with a switch added on at some point. Does anyone know how I can test the chips for correct operation?

Whelp, just to add to my own personal experience, it turned out my OBD2 reader was at fault, got it replaced and hey presto it works a charm.

Spent ages fiddling with the various settings and drivers, doh.
